Boost for Newmarket Brownies

Newmarket Charitable Foundation funds Newmarket Brownies

A pack of Newmarket-based Brownies will be able to enjoy all the fun of a residential camp thanks to a donation from the Newmarket Charitable Foundation.

A cheque for £400 was handed over recently by Foundation members Noel Byrne, of the Bedford Lodge Hotel and Spa and Laraine Moody of West Suffolk College.

Grace Duncan, leader of the 6th Newmarket Brownies and new District Commissioner for Newmarket, said she was grateful to the Foundation for the money, which would make a large contribution towards the running of a themed residential stay for the group in June.

Around 30 Brownies, aged from seven to ten years, will have the opportunity to try out woodland activities including campfire construction, cooking, team building and crafts.

“The girls can explore friendships by getting to know better their Brownie friend who they may usually see only once a week at our meetings,” said Grace.

“It’s a great opportunity for them to develop their independence, helping out with everyday duties, staying away from home, potentially for the first time for some of the girls, and spending time in and around wildlife with their friends in a safe and fun environment.”
