More than 60 students from Newmarket Academy have had a unique insight into the world of work thanks to a new Careers Festival organised by Newmarket Charitable Foundation in partnership with the Academy.

The festival saw students take part in a series of business visits across the town, offering a behind-the-scenes look at a range of sectors and the many career paths available right on their doorstep. From hospitality and retail to healthcare, equine, tech and logistics, local businesses opened their doors to welcome the students and share first-hand what working in their sector involves.

In additistudents and horses at Careers Festivalon to site visits, students also attended workshops on career planning and financial wellbeing, designed to help them understand how to navigate their future working lives and manage their money as they begin to earn.

Josh Schunmann, Director of Newmarket Charitable Foundation, said: “It’s been fantastic to see so many local businesses getting involved in this event and giving their time to help inspire the next generation. The Careers Festival is all about showing young people what’s possible and helping them connect their learning to real-world opportunities. We’re so grateful to the many employers who participated – their support has been invaluable.”

Martin Witter, Headteacher of Newmarket Academy, added: “Our students have come away from this experience with fresh ideas, raised aspirations, and a stronger sense of what their future could hold. Opportunities like this make a real difference to their confidence and motivation. We’re incredibly thankful to the Newmarket Charitable Foundation and all the local businesses who made this possible.”

The Careers Festival continues the successful programme of careers education and employer engagement being developed between Newmarket Academy and the local community. Plans are already underway for a Careers Expo this autumn and a return of the festival next spring. For more information or to get involved in future events, please contact: [email protected]
