The Community Cinema is one of Newmarket Charitable Foundation’s proudest achievements – a project that has transformed from vision to reality thanks to strong local support and collaboration. Since launching in Spring 2024, the cinema has been drawing audiences of all ages into the new venue to view a mix of blockbusters, family-friendly films, plus live stream performances, including those from the National Theatre and concert performances.
The journey began with a mobile 100-seater cinema on The Severals in February 2023. This trial not only brought a cinema experience to local residents but also gathered valuable community feedback. The response was overwhelmingly positive, confirming a strong appetite for a permanent cinema in Newmarket.
Building on this momentum, we partnered with Abbeygate Cinemas and secured a permanent home for the new venue at the King’s Theatre on Fitzroy Street. This now much-loved space now hosts a regular film programme, bringing cinema and arts entertainment back into the heart of the town.
This project was made possible through partnership with:
- Abbeygate Cinema, Bury St Edmunds
- Newmarket Town Council
- West Suffolk Council
- The Jockey Club
- Newmarket Nomads
