The Prince’s Foundation made a recommendation to “use the St Felix Middle School site for sports pitches, tennis court and multi-use games areas for local residents currently under-served by formal play provision”. This has since been incorporated within the Newmarket Neighbourhood Plan (2019).
Such a facility could link perfectly with the George Lambton Playing Fields and the Yellow Brick Road, with its Skatepark and BMX track, providing more opportunities for local people to get active through a range of different and accessible activities.
Further, the same site could potentially incorporate a Youth Drop-In centre, partially staffed by specialist youth workers to provide additional wellbeing support for young people.
The charity would be playing an active role in accessing funds to support the establishment of the facility, developing a “masterplan” for wider consultation.
